You Will Never Reach Your Destination If You Stop

“You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks.” -Winston Churchill

Now here we have a famous quote by the legendary Churchill, who needs no introduction, having been regarded as one of the greatest national leaders ever. Churchill’s quote is a reminder to focus on the goal. It is all too easy to get sidetracked. However this quote also makes use of a “framing” technique to give it a subtle humour: The “dog that barks” might be an actual dog, but it is really a reference to critics and other loud-mouthed persons who have nothing better to do than make a nuisance of themselves. In such situations, rather than stopping to deal with them – which might even seem wholly justified – the best course of action might be to ignore them altogether and stay on target.
