“We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” – Carlos Castaneda

Interesting and enigmatic quote from famous author Carlos Castaneda.

Castaneda rose to fame several decades ago with a series of mysterious and somewhat bizarre books about his encounters with Don Juan, an old yet powerful spiritual teacher. Castaneda would visit Don Juan at his desert property and Don Juan would take him on various journeys into the ‘spirit world’ – combining strange and challenging experiences with a deep philosophy and profound outlook on life.

Here, Castaneda implies that we are the ones finally responsible for our happiness and that we often foolishly go to great lengths to create our own suffering. This statement is an attack on “victimhood” and empowers us to take an active role in creating the happiness that we would like to have.
