Learn these rules. Print them out, commit them to memory. They will serve you well in every field.

1. True Personal Power Is Power Over Yourself, Not Power Over Others

Power over others is a ghost of power, a substitute craved and wielded by people who have no true power over themselves. Self control is your greatest asset; a lack of self control is the most common cause of downfall. You were born to be strong and to master your environment. If you cannot control your urge to smoke, for example, ask yourself “Which is stronger, me or this pile of leaves?” You are certainly stronger – but you must choose to be – and live firmly by those choices. “True victory is victory over oneself” – Morihei Ueshiba.

2. Validate Yourself

Do not allow yourself to be ruled by a need of praise or support from others. You must learn to validate yourself. “From none but self expect applause; He noblest lives and noblest dies who makes and keeps his self-made laws.” – Sir Richard Burton.

3. Strive For Self-Reliance

True power means not to be reliant on others, but to be reliant on yourself. It means making the commitment to forge the life you desire according to your own will; to create freely, and to rise above the false constraints – either social or financial – created by others. All this while acknowledging our interdependence – yet our interdependence thrives best when we are a team of driven, self-reliant individuals choosing to work together.

4. Either You Choose Your Identity Or It Will Be Chosen For You

Ask yourself this – is your identity dictated by the way you see yourself, or by the way others see you? Identity is the self that you create for yourself, your own personal idiom. Image is the way others see us. Create your own identity and allow others their uniqueness also. “If you end up with a boring miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest, or some guy on television telling you how to do your shit, then you deserve it.” – Frank Zappa.

5. Do Not Be A Tyrant

Those who have true personal power do not need to harm others unless those others threaten your existence. By affirming your right to personal power, it follows as a logical conclusion that you also affirm that others also have the right to personal power. Therefore, if you would be a King or Queen, treat others also as Sovereign. Grace is the true quality of royalty.

6. Block All From Invading Your Mind And Forcing Their Ideas On To You

The world is filled with ideologies, world-views, cults, religions and with those who would attempt to subjugate your mind for their own purposes. Think for yourself. Though territory in the world is endlessly disputed, there is one sphere in which you have absolute sovereignty: Your own mind. You are your own Emperor / Empress. There is no true divinity in the universe that would dare deny you this: Look at the wild mountains, the majestic waterfalls: Any true God would rather you view yourself as a falcon on the wing than a canary in a cage. You are not required to think as others think.

7. Focus

Many people do not achieve very much because they do not have enough focus. Great achievement is difficult. Would you rather toil and strive up to the limit of pain, or would you rather recline on velvet and eat cake? Of course, any creature would prefer to recline in luxury. But great achievement requires absolute dedication and strength, and that you do that which is difficult first, so that you might have greater ability, ease and freedom later. The idea that you can achieve greatness with no effort is a poisonous fallacy.

8. Health Is The Highest Form Of Wealth There Is

Seek to learn as much as you can about this complex machine that we inhabit – and put that knowledge into daily practice. Such an attitude will serve you well – as health dictates the limits of the level of personal power you have access to.

9. Keep Improving

Keep your commitment to producing quality work; let that speak for you, and let others keep talking. The world has become a cess pit of over-promotion of garbage. Do not sink to their level. Hype has become an artform, yet ultimately it is a cheap trick. It only works as a mask for so long – and when the real thing comes along, the hyped article is instantly exposed for what it is: Inferior. The solution is to concentrate always on actually being better, rather than just trying to look better. It will take longer to achieve prominence, but your success will be built on more solid foundations. “Do nothing which is of no use” – Miyamoto Mushashi

10. Gratitude Is The Attitude

You have so many things to be thankful for that you cannot possibly even count them. As part of your daily practice, take a moment just to appreciate the gift of life and the remarkable opportunities that surround us all at all times. Regardless of your belief as to our origins, life truly is remarkable. Enjoy the ride.

11. Read Good Books

With a library, you are surrounded by the greatest thoughts of the greatest minds of all ages. “He who has a garden and a library wants for nothing.” – Marcus Tullius Cicero.  Check out our awesome recommended reading list: The Success Library: 55 Of The Best Books Of All Time For Money Makers, Entrepreneurs, Movers And Shakers

12. Respect Nature

Regardless of our technological advancement, you are a child of Nature and to Nature you will return. The old saying that “What you do to the world, you do to yourself”, is absolutely true and always will be; thus a strong relationship with Nature may be the greatest form of personal power you can achieve. Think deeply about this!
